Denise

Denise Jarvie

Reception Super Star / Human Potential Coach & Mentor

Hi I’m Denise

Four years ago, I weighed my heaviest at 115 kilos. At 163 cm, I resembled a beach ball with arms and legs and was in physical pain. Deciding I had to do something, I found a six-week health and fitness challenge and thus began a journey back wellness. In the process, I fell back in love with training. I had forgotten how lifting weights helped both my mental and physical health.

When I was growing up, I never knew how to deal with emotions in a healthy, balanced way. So, I pushed them down and moved on – until they manifested into anxiety and depression. Around thirty, I was motivated to change careers and look for deeper answers. This began twenty years of study into meditation, metaphysics, psychology and counselling.

Now I find myself bringing my two loves together – The Mind Body connection. My aim is to bring meditation to athletes and show them how to discover an infinite inner power of flow that not only helps goals to be achieved quicker in the gym, but in all areas of life.

I am honoured to be part of the 707 tribe – to be the smiley face on reception that inspires people to become the best version of themselves. If I can do it, anyone can!

My Favourite Quote:

“Athletes eat and train, they don’t diet and exercise”.

“A mistake that happens more than once, is a decision.”

“Be the change you want to see in the world.”

Fun Facts

  • I was a hairdresser and make-up artist for fifteen years
  • I am a Meditation Teacher and Massage Therapist
  • I have written three Oracle Card Decks and a Tarot deck
  • I am a CrossFit Level 1 Trainer
  • At 53 I had my ¾ sleeve Tattoo done – never too old!
  • I have a Tonkinese cat called Dave
  • My music tastes are diverse, but I am a Metal Head at heart.

“Assume nothing” – Kim Traynor

Debbie

Reception Super Star

Although I don’t have any background experience in the fitness industry, our paths have crossed many times over! My fitness journey really sparked into action when I took up Muay Thai kick-boxing in Singapore – it was my form of “yoga”!! Sadly, however, a serious skiing accident I had in 1987, which had broken and dislocated most of the right side of my body, finally caught up with me. After undergoing surgery, I had to give up MT boxing and undertake specialist rehabilitation. I had also gained a lot of weight during this time and was told by my surgeon I must lose around 20 kg to enable a full recovery.

Thankfully, I found a brilliant PT who helped me lose around 30 kg and whipped me into the best shape I’d ever been in! He convinced me to enter into the Singaporean Fitness First Biggest Loser competition which I got runner-up in for my category.

As my knees have worn down again and I’ve put on weight, I joined Gym 707 and enlisted the services of Tom to help get me back into shape AGAIN!

I strongly believe if you suffer from chronic pain and injuries, you cannot under estimate how much a specialist PT/physiologist can help you and change your situation for good! It is worth every penny. Take my word for it, it’s never too late to start your journey and your body will thank you every day for it!

My favourite quotes:
“Use it or Lose it”
“It is what it is”

Fun Facts

  • Yes, I’m the one with the Kiwi accent – hard to believe I’ve been a “global gypsy”, with my husband, since 1989 and changed countries about 7 times – it’s the accent that sticks!!!
  • I’ve also changed “career” more than I care to remember and have had some pretty “interesting” ones along the way, but the hardest and most rewarding one I have ever had was owning my own restaurant in Singapore. It was a very steep learning curve!
  • I have a rescue beagle, whom many of you know already, called Honey! Di actually thought she was hiring Honey as a Receptionist, but it was really me – she was so disappointed!
